After such a unique episode in “Lotus Eaters”, looking forward to what came next was never came with more anticipation. Tandy and Tyrone found embrace in what they are capable of, and proved that there wasn’t any limitation given to their corner of the MCU. A lot of our fears about Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger were put to rest in that hour, with the hope that this week’s episode would continue doing so.

Moving forward with Hess, I’m glad that the interactions didn’t end after Tandy and Tyrone saved him. Tandy could have moved on to whatever next, but that wouldn’t have given us much takeaway after what she and Tyrone went through to get answers. That aside, it was interesting that they would choose this episode for both of them to experience what the day is like when there’s nothing to do but remember the loss of their loved one. Everyone has their way of commemorating a loss, so it was cool to see how that happened on both sides. Tandy and Melissa preparing to commemorate the eighth anniversary of Nathan’s passing with their annual memorial tradition was heartwarming. They don’t spend nearly enough time together, so this is progress for them where things have been getting better through understanding.

Now Tandy’s target was an intense encounter once she got what she needed from Roxxon. The feeling is always the same when she’s able to confront her demons. She shook some trees for that to happen this time, but that is the kind of risk for justice that you want from what you know to be Cloak & Dagger. With that said, the twist they threw her way? I don’t think anyone could have prepared for that. To have fought for something and someone for so long and then suddenly realize that not everything was as it seemed on the surface.

As for Tyrone, last week was a good break for him after experiencing once again the dangers of Detective Connors. However, now was the time for him to let that sink in on top of dealing with the anniversary of Billy’s passing. For how together his family tends to be, it was very shocking to see how they held up when those feelings of loss came flooding in. Again, not every families deals with loss the same way, so the contrast was appreciated. The addition of Tyrone’s extended family was a good touch since sometimes it takes full house as well to create comfort during trying times. That aside, when it came time for Tyrone to confront the fallout from a few weeks back, there was definitely more confidence to him and what he can do. Going to Detective O’Reilly for help in getting a confession out of Detective Connors was bold for the plan he had in mind, and the risk he took in how far he was willing to go. Enacting this plan against Connors was the best part of this episode since Tyrone was finally becoming something familiar to the Cloak we know. For those who have been looking for more powers involved, this episode was bold in how both Tandy and Tyrone made use of them. Their time in Hess’s mind had exactly the kind of pay-off you were hoping for.

Something that caught me off guard was the actual reveal of who Tyrone’s mom worked for. Up to this point you should have been able to assume it was some big corporation, but with so much going on you never would have guessed one with such a strong connection to what Tandy and Tyrone are working against. The reveal of where O’Reilly fits into this was also quite the shocker. There had to be something more than the cliche cop role and they delivered when the time came. Her relevance was played up very well alongside the dose of reality she has experienced through the part she plays.

Despite what either had going on, this was a good time to prove that they weren’t going to consistently pull them apart to do their own thing and forget about each other. For this episode, it was smart how they focused on the positive influence of Tandy’s dad and Tyrone’s brother. It was a good lead into the theme of this episode in its entirety.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger “Ghost Stories” lived up to the title. No one was safe from their brand of justice, yet at the same time everyone has now learned that you can’t get justice without losing something along the way. Next week should be intriguing for how the story of Tandy and Detective O’Reilly is shaken up. They are bound to ruffle some feathers considering what they suffer and learn is quite world-shattering.
