Obi Wan Kenobi Spinoff and A-List Cameo For Episode 7 Revealed?

by

We have known for some time now that Disney plans to release spin off movies in the Star Wars franchise. It is unclear as of yet which characters in particular will get a solo movie, of course the names that have been mentioned as interesting characters ripe for a solo project include Yoda and Han Solo. Mainly due to the fact that they are two of the most beloved characters from the Star Wars universe and have a surprising lack of back story, many of the audience favourites are the characters we know least about are captivated by what we do see. It would certainly be interesting to experience the trials and tribulations of Yoda in the centuries of his life that are untouched by film, however will revealing Yoda’s past ruin his mysticism?

A name has been popping up a lot recently as a character with potential for a solo movie, that name is Obi Wan Kenobi. I think we can all agree that of the very few good things about the Star Wars sequels one of them was Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi. McGregor was brilliant as Obi Wan, it is just a shame that almost everything else around him in those films pulled the quality right down. If anything from the prequels should be salvaged it is McGregor’s Obi Wan.

This may be a possibility the options for spin off films are wide open, there could be sequels or prequels of a variety of possible characters. With all of the buzz around the new instalments in the Star Wars Franchise of late Ewan McGregor was inevitably asked if he would think about returning to the role. In an interview with MTV McGregor not only expressed an interest in featuring in a new Star Wars movie but his ideas for how it may occur. When asked what he would think about returning McGregor said: “Could be quite exciting, I’d be up for it, for sure, of course.” McGregor also commented on how Disney may go about reviving the character for a solo movie: “I think it’s a good idea, the only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, “Episode 3″, before Alec Guinness, there’s that period where he’s in the desert. That might be my window there to tell that story. I don’t know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff.”

In other Star Wars related news, it has come out this week that A-list stars may have cameos in the new instalments into the franchise. Daniel Craig is a confirmed cameo, this weekend we found out that Craig will have a short mystery cameo in Episode 7. He will not appear openly, Craig is said to be behind a mask or under make up in a scene, it will be a sort of game for eagle eyed fans to spot the scene he features in. However, rumours have surface that James Bond may not be the only cameo in the newest Star Wars movie, A-list stars such as Robert Downey Jr and Samuel L Jackson are said to appear in the movie in hidden cameos.
