Trade Buzz – Comic Trades for the Week of June 8th, 2016
Comic books are kind of a funny thing. You can read them in their serialized monthly version or you can wait until the collected editions come out and read full arcs in one sitting. For some, the trade paperback format is the easiest and more cost efficient for them and every week, on top of the hundreds of single issues that come out, a ton of trades come out. These are the trade paperbacks we think are your best bets this week.
X-O Manowar Volume 11 The Kill List TP by Robert Venditti, Robert Gill & Phil Jimenez (Valiant Comics) $19.99
X-O MANOWAR AND NINJAK GO DEEP UNDERCOVER FOR… ‘THE KILL LIST’! With two kingdoms now under his command, Aric of Dacia has pledged loyalty to his adopted nation – the United States of America – and now America has given him a new mission: destroy The Vine’s network of humanoid alien agents, once and for all. To do it, he’ll have to turn to the one man among us he can trust…his own former enemy, the deadly MI-6 operative called Ninjak! Meanwhile, The Vine’s most militant warrior, Commander Trill, is readying a counterattack…and what happens next will shake the Valiant Universe to its core.
Can X-O Manowar and Ninjak cut their way to the source of this stealth attack before all is lost? New York Times best-selling writer Robert Venditti (WRATH OF THE ETERNAL WARRIOR) and explosive artists Robert Gill (BOOK OF DEATH), Francis Portela (Green Lantern), and CAFU (IMPERIUM) prepare the next salvo in X-O MANOWAR’s unfolding epic!
Another team-up with X-O Manowar and Ninjak? Why the heck not? This is a story you don’t want to miss as you get to see how far these two will go to eliminate all enemy Plantings in seats of power, and how far Commander Trill will go to make sure they don’t have their way.
Heroes Vengeance TP by Zach Craley & Rubine (Titan Comics) $14.99
Whether you were much of a fan of the show or not, it is hard to deny the appreciation you might have more for these comics because they better create a sense of attachment to the characters who do get lost in the somewhat confusing plot. Especially when it comes to those characters like Oscar.
Black Knight The Fall Of Dane Whitman TP by Frank Tieri, Walker & Julian Totino Tedesco (Marvel Comics) $15.99
What do you do when it’s your destiny to be damned? For centuries, thats the grave question that has plagued each wielder of the Ebony Blade – and all of them ultimately succumbed to the sword’s curse. Now, as his own addiction to the weapon grows ever stronger, this shocking truth is laid bare to its current owner, the former Avenger Dane Whitman. Will this revelation be the reason he ends up in the strange and dangerous realm known as Weirdworld?
Or are there other forces at work? When the Uncanny Avengers hunt him down, will Dane’s past actions finally catch up with him? And in the ensuing battle, will his stay in Weirdworld come to a premature end? It’s swords, sorcery and one man’s struggle to not lose his soul!
It may have been cancelled, and it may have ended earlier than it should have, but this was a great Marvel title that did something new and stood out from the rest. It is worth a read for the appeal of the kind of character Black Knight can really be when dealing with the threat of what the Ebony Blade can do to his sanity.
