Top Tips for Keeping Your Dog Safe In Your Yard

Dogs are curious creatures who love to explore their surroundings. While this trait is part of their charm it can also lead them into danger; busy streets, wild animals, germs, and dognappers are all just some of the real dangers awaiting your pet out of the bounds of your home.

Here are 3 tips for keeping your dog safe from the outside world while they’re in your yard.

Build a Fence

First off, fencing off your yard is the most effective way to keep your dog inside the property and away from any potential hazards.

There are a variety of different fencing options available on the market, each with its pros and cons. For example, a wooden fence may be less expensive than a wire fence but it’s also not as durable. Similarly, a chain-link fence can’t be chewed through but it may not be the most aesthetically pleasing option.

Ultimately, the best fence for your yard depends on your budget and your preferences, just as long as it’s tall enough and secure enough that your dog cannot escape.

Make The Yard Appealing

Your dog is less likely to leave the safety of your yard if they find it more appealing than the outdoors so by making your yard an inviting and enjoyable place for a dog, you can keep yours inside the property.

There are many simple ways to transform your yard from a bland space into a dog fun zone. For example, adding a sandbox filled with toys, like chew toys or balls, will keep your dog entertained and distracted from any potential dangers outside the fence. Or, an inflatable pool will give your dog a fun place to play as well as cool off on hot days.

You could even set up an agility course for your dog to explore and burn off some energy.

Keep an Eye On Them

After you install a fence and transform your yard into an appealing place, it’s still important to keep an eye on your pet. Dogs can be unpredictable creatures and they might find a way to escape even the most well-secured yards.

There are ways around not having the time to physically watch them. For example, you could install a dog cam so you can check in on them while you’re away from the yard. Or, if you have a neighbor or family member who’s available, you could ask them to pop over and keep an eye on your furry friend while you’re gone.

Dogs are family and as such the responsibility of keeping them from harm’s way should not be taken lightly. By following the tips above you can ensure your dog’s safety as they play in your yard. So build a fence, make the yard appealing, and keep an eye on them.
