Unusual Kentucky Laws

Although Kentucky is known for many great things, it’s undeniable that this laidback southern state has a reputation for fascinating laws.

Over time, Kentucky state officials and those from county levels have legislated a myriad of laws and regulations. Although these laws were passed with good intentions, you will find some of them a little unusual in today’s society. After all, it is undeniable that society as a whole has changed over time.

Regardless of whether these laws were forgotten or merely maintained, the fact is that you can still be arrested for breaking them. However, you shouldn’t worry. If you plan on traveling to Kentucky, you can always contact formidable lawyers such as Wilt & Thompson to explain possible consequences of breaking these laws, as well as advise on possible laws you should watch for a while in Kentucky.

Without further ado, let’s delve right into some of the unusual laws in Kentucky.

You Must Shower

Yes, you read that right. For whatever reason, you must shower at least once a year in Kentucky!

Although it might seem strange, at one point officials in the state of Kentucky deemed it necessary to impose a law on citizens (and anyone visiting Kentucky) that mandated everyone to take a bath at least once per year.

For anyone visiting Kentucky, this law is peculiar. It begs the question whether there might have been a disease when this law was passed. Whatever the reason, you should be sure to take advantage of a nice hot shower at least once per year in Kentucky if you want to stay out of trouble!

It’s Illegal to Hunt or Shoot an Animal from a Moving Vehicle

This is another unusual law that you will find in Kentucky. You can be arrested and imprisoned if you hunt an animal from a moving vehicle. Even weirder is the part that states hunting for whales is an exception to this law.

It’s Forbidden to Throw Flowers at a Public Speaker

You can’t go to jail for throwing flowers. However, you can be arrested for throwing flowers at a public speaker in Kentucky. No matter how captivating or inspiring a public speaker is, laws in the state forbid anyone from throwing flowers at a public speaker. Even so, you are allowed to shout or stand, but throwing a rose or other flower is considered a step too far.

Likewise, it’s illegal to throw tomatoes or rotten eggs at a public speaker. Regardless of how awful a speaker’s joke is, you shouldn’t throw rotten eggs or tomatoes.

You Are Considered Sober Until You Can’t Stand

That’s right. According to an old Kentucky law, as long as you can still stand, irrespective of the amount of alcohol you’ve indulged in, you are still considered to be sober by the state. Even more unusual is that Kentucky has one of the most stringent drinking and driving laws in the US.

It’s not unusual for laws to contradict. Even so, it’s essential to learn where one particular law takes precedence over another. To effectively do this, a Kentucky lawyer will be handy in explaining where a specific law overrides another. This way, you can find out if you’re actually safe to drink and drive in Kentucky without breaking any laws.

In a Nutshell

Different states have unusual laws, and while you may consider these Kentucky laws to be odd, it’s important to remember that state officials passed them for a particular reason. Although you may find them unusual, it’s crucial to adhere to them whenever you are in Kentucky.
