Who does Mario Pitillo play in the Godzilla franchise?
Maria Pitillo was cast to play the character of Audrey Timmons in the 1998 reboot of the Godzilla franchise, which was simply named “Godzilla”. Pitillo then reprised the character of Audrey Timmons in the 1999 sequel to “Godzilla”, which was titled “Godzilla 2”. Which saw Pitillo co-star with her “Godzilla” co-stars Matthew Broderick and Jean Reno.
While all three actors had signed on to appear in three Godzilla films, a third movie was never made. Instead the entire Godzilla franchise was later rebooted in 2014. The 2014 rendition of “Godzilla” featured Byran Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins and Elizabeth Olsen. However, Pitillo was not offered a role in the reboot of “Godzilla”.
Pitillo won a Razzie award for her portrayal of Audrey Timmons in “Godzilla”:
Pitillo was awarded with a Razzie award for the worst supporting actress of the year, an award which no actress would be thrilled to win. However, in interviews Pitillo claims that she knew that Godzilla’s script wouldn’t showcase her acting abilities but that she hoped her performance would build her profile. So that she would be able to star in future blockbusters.
Pitillo starred on a few highly successful TV shows:
While Pitillo’s acting career never took off, Pitillo did manage to book gigs on a variety of well known shows. Examples of which include “Will and Grace”, “Friends”, “Ally Mc Beal”, “Mad About You”, “Providence”, and “Law and Order”.
One of Pitillo’s first TV roles was on the iconic 1980s show “Miami Vice”:
Pitillo booked a guest role on the 80s cop show “Miami Vice”, in 1989. Which was one of her first notable screen acting credits.
Pitillo filmed pilots of numerous TV shows that were never picked up:
Unfortunately for Pitillo, she didn’t have much luck when it came to picking successful pilots and the vast majority of pilots which Pitillo starred in were not picked up by a network. As examples, Pitillo in 1999 Pitillo filmed a pilot with “Two and a Half Men” star Jon Cryer, which failed to find a buyer. More recently in 2006 Pitillo filmed a pilot for a proposed new TV series with Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka, which failed to attract an interested network.
Pitillo has not appeared in a TV show or film for over 10 years:
Pitillo’s most recent acting role was in 2008 when she appeared in an episode of the TV show “Big Shots”. The specific episode which Pitillo guest starred on was titled “Sex Be Not Proud”, where she played the character of Valerie Cerritas.
So don’t be too disappointed if you don’t see Pitillo in another feature film in the near future. As for the time being, she seems to be content with living a normal life outside of the spotlight.
