There is some serious money to made on YouTube if you are able to create a cool vlog which people are going to be interested in. You only need to look at people such as Dude Perfect and Pewdiepie who have literally millions of followers and who are making millions from their channels. To put things in perspective, Dude Perfect make cool trick shots and Pewdiepie made his fame filming his gaming exploits, this is the world we live in now. My friend Bharat Bhise and I set up our channel dedicated to sport a couple of years ago and whilst we are not in the upper echelons like the two channels mentioned, we have built up a solid number of followers who enjoy our videos.
If you want to get started with vlogging, here is what you should be doing and thinking about.
Niche Market
The most important thing which you need to be thinking about is the theme of your channel, this is what is going to help you succeed. The best thing to think about is a niche market, simply getting on video and talking about general topics will not gain you the loyal following which you are looking for. Instead try to pick something that you are passionate about, and something which others will be passionate about too.
Getting the Setup Right
The last thing that people want to see when they tune into your blog is you sitting in your kitchen with a microphone, it is important that you getter setup just right. Remember the hundreds of thousands of options that people have in terms of watching videos online, they can easily switch off after a couple of seconds if you look amateur. Work on creating a little setup so that you can make a great first impression.
Practice
We all think that we can talk with confidence in front of a camera but you will need more than this to win people over. You have to be infectious and you have to be watchable, for that it is important that you put some real effort into practicing your voice and your style of presentation. Bharat and I must have recorded over 100 videos before we decided that any of them were good enough to share with the world.
Providing Value
Something which so many people fail to understand is that you have to provide value to your viewers, ask yourself why they should tune in to your channel ahead of others. The type of value is up to you, you could make them laugh, teach something, fascinate or amaze viewers, or provide detailed insight into a certain topic. Whatever the information is which you are discussing on your channel, you must ensure that the viewers are going to get something from it. This is what will bring them back in the future, because they will trust that with your vlog, they are going to get value from it.
Get these foundations in place before you launch for the best chances of success.
