The best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, or so the saying goes. I believe this is true for all individuals, be it a man or a woman. Food is one of those blessings that satisfies a person and instils happiness in them. I consider myself a foodie and make it a habit to try something new whenever I visit a new place.
I had recently used a Delhi to Chandigarh taxi service with a driver to visit a few relatives. During the trip, I also made it a point to stuff myself with some of the city’s tastiest dishes.
Best Recommendations for Punjabi Food
Punjab is a place that is described as loud and fun and full of life. This also applies to the dishes that they make here. With one spoonful into the mouth, I experienced a burst of flavors that made me go back for more. Although I was spoiled for choices by the city, here is a list of my top favorite places in Chandigarh:
- Sethi Dhaba
Though this seems like a regular roadside restaurant just like every other dhaba, Sethi Dhaba is one of the city’s famous ones. This dhaba has seen a huge variety of politicians and celebrities visit and enjoy the food. Its traditional ambience gives a homely feeling where I was not conscious of who was next to me or how messily I was eating.
- Pal Dhaba
This spot can be considered as a place to enjoy the most authentic Punjabi food within the city. Unlike the normal roadside appearance that a dhaba usually has, Pal Dhaba is a part of an outdoor mall that offers the creamiest and tastiest style of Punjabi dishes. It is well-known for its butter chicken masala, which I enjoyed with the garlic butter naan, and trust me when I say this, I couldn’t get enough of it.
- Preet Eating Zone
As a travel lover who takes trips frequently, I always travel on a tight budget. This also means finding the best spot for food without having to spend too much. One such place that offers tasty but pocket-friendly food is Preet Eating Zone. Although the place has no seating arrangements, it compensates with its well-known chole over rice dish, garnished with coriander and cabbage, making it a must-have.
- Gurbax Dhaba
This is one of the best Punjabi restaurants to visit, especially if you are looking for a homely vibe. When I entered this restaurant, I felt right at home. It felt almost like one of my aunts would walk out of the kitchen with a variety of Punjabi dishes to keep me full till the next day. The restaurant is well-known for serving authentic Punjabi dishes, including paneer-do-pyaza and dal makhani.
- Deluxe Dhaba
This is one of the few dhabas the city offers, with a higher price range. However, this also means that the dishes here live up to our expectations. It offers a wide variety of dishes that had me coming back to try more. One thing that makes this place even more popular is that one of the former Canadian Prime Ministers, Stephan Harper ate here.
At the end of my trip, I soon realized that the places where I was most comfortable and relaxed while enjoying my meals were at dhabas. My trip was extremely convenient as I used a taxi booking app for an easy and affordable commute through the city. This helped make my trip one memorable experience. The taste of Punjabi food is something I thoroughly enjoyed, especially when looking for comfort food.
