Superman 8 features Jon Kent, Superman’s son:
Superman 8 sees the return of Jon Kent, who happens to be Superman’s son and is also known as Superboy. If you’ve never heard of Jon Kent, he first appeared in Superman 2 and is Superman’s first child with his long time love, reporter Lois Lane. Just as Superman is often referred to as the man of steel, his son Jon is sometimes referred to as the son of steel.

In Superman 8 Jor-El is portrayed as a complicated character who is neither a villain or a superhero. Instead Jor-El is a character who is willing to act on his beliefs, even if his beliefs may have dangerous consequences for the citizens of the planets who his decisions affect. Which means that his actions are often at odds with his son and grandsons personal beliefs.

At the start of Superman 8, Jon Kent decides to accept his grandfather’s invitation to travel to space, for a bit of fun and a chance to escape the monotony of school and chores. In space Jon has a deep conversation with his grandfather about their strange existences, Jon as a half alien half human 11 year old and Jor-El as a man who should be dead. While Jon is frustrated by his chat with his grandfather afterwards he gazes through their spaceship’s window and finally realizes his role in the universe.
